A project for an early support for children and young people coming from Immigrant families with a preventive component
In the social focuses of Munich Neuperlach, Ramersdorf and Obergiesing we are working with young people. Many of them there are exposed to severe problems and difficulties such as alcohol- or drug addiction, bad performance at school as well as language deficits.
Young migrants are especially involved in these problems, as well as children and youth from socially deprived families – among them one-parent families and families who do not support their kids. For these children and adolescents we are providing a contact point.
How?
The contact point provides pedagogical coaching and spare time programmes for these youths which include the following activities:
The contact point provides pedagogical coaching and spare time programmes for these youths which include the following activities:
- By mentoring the homework of the pupils and by recapitulating the subjects learned at school in the morning, it will be deepened and become more coherent in a relaxed atmosphere.
- Creative spare time activities such as drawing, cooking, dancing etc. – which is not part of their normal life - let the participants enjoy life and discover their potential.
- Their birthdays are celebrated and so are the different religious holidays, which enables the kids to learn about different cultures- those of their countries of origin as well as the German culture.
At the same time, the participants acquire compulsory key qualifications for school and working life such as reliability, fairness, the ability to work within a team and concentration.
Goals
- To improvetheir school performance so that the youths have a bigger chance to acquire a more sophisticated school diploma.
- To take preventive actions to stabilise their behaviour and to help them to solve their problems without violence.
- To develop and to strengthen social skills.
- To increase the participation in general spare time and educational programs designed for young people.
- To involve the parents in their children’s problems step by step.
Methods
- private lessons on a regular basis
- training on how to solve difficult situations without the use of violence and training of the teenagers to become arbitrators
- regular get-togethers focusing on special issues and complementary projects like video, art
- presenting the results in front of a bigger audience
- spare time programs which include the exchange with other youth groups, journeys, sports competitions, city excursions and the visit of cultural events
- active involvement of the parents, regular information about their children

Integration Award 2008
In the context of the project “Live and Life for tomorrow” the organisation received the Integration Award 2008 due to their commitment.
The organisation understands by integration the sufficient teaching of spoken and written German langauge as a basis for a successful integratiuon into the German society. But part of this are also the various information about life in Germany, in order to give migrants an orientation and access to social, cultural and political life.
